Issue 25: Judicial Policy

Rasheed Young || Co-founder & President, Run Athletics

Rasheed Young

So ends the Republic Revolution…again. The constant battle of who controls congress. Its a “battle of words” with no winner or better yet, a game of tic-tac-toe. It all depends on who goes first.

Based on past history, Barack will appoint federal judges that share his political views. They then have to be approved by the Senate, which happen to be controlled by the Democrats. Sounds like a win/win, except this time around seems like Barack’s going to have a lot more friends!

There are states that flipped, that have had long strong holds for Republicans in congress. Republicans have opted for “Change” instead of continuing down a destructive path.

Either way, we will still spend more tax dollars on social programs, probation and other rehabilitative forms to cure the criminals of the states. We all have a task at hand to clean up the past 8 years!

I never knew Bush could mess up a game of tic-tac-toe.

Rasheed Young is the co-founder and President of Run Athletics. His partners include Hip Hop visionary Russell Simmons and his brother Joseph Rev Run Simmons, former member Run DMC and from MTV’s Run’s House, which is currently in its sixth season.

Rasheed also serves as the Simmons consigliare and vice president of the Pastry program designed by Run’s daughters, Vanessa and Angela Simmons. The Pastry line has been an overwhelming success in the female, juniors and young adults markets. To date, Pastry has grossed over $40 million in a years time. http://pastrykicks.com

Very well put, Rasheed. The negative impact on this world imposed by the Bush Administration is unprecedented. One of the biggest challenges that we face is converting the US Supreme Court from a conservative body to a liberal one. My hope is that President Obama will have opportunity to appointment more than one Supreme Court Justice during his tenure as President. Even though I am happy that he getting the opportunity to appoitnment one now, we will not feel the change until he replaces the more conservative ones. Right now he is only replacing another liberal. By the way, Rasheed, it is good to see how successful my former chilhood neighbor from 183rd St. has become. Hope to talk to you soon.

I liked your last line.

Unfortunately Rasheed, it was not only the last 8 years that got us where we are today. I voted for clinton—twice–and you know what; not only did he look the other way so far as regulation goes on wall street, he made millions and millions of dollars just like Bush’s father did with the Arabs.

This has become a nation of greed, excess and people at the top looking the other way so as to recapitulate the wealth of a select few. The idea that that there would be a trickle down effect from men who are spending 5 mil on a yacht party for example is ludicrous. When i told you that you would always be well off it was not only because I recognized you as a smart business man but also because you know the meaning of gratitude and giving. These assholes at the top of Enron, Lehman Bros, and lets not forget that piece of shit Meadoff etc who walked away with billions and left thousands penniless are not the kind of men you are. I will get off my soap box now

Very true Rasheed. It feels like the problem continues to get bigger. At one point it seemed Bush had screwed up on Foreign Policy and then our economy comes crashing. I can only hope Obama is around for two terms so he can do what he needs to do to fix it…and we, as a country, come out better, wiser, smarter in the end.

Inaugural Insight

  • The inauguration for the first U.S. president, George Washington, was held on April 30, 1789 in New York City.
  • Should January 20 be a Sunday, the President is usually administered the oath of office in a private ceremony on that day, followed by a public ceremony the following day.
  • Immediately following the oath, the bands play four ruffles and flourishes and "Hail to the Chief", followed by a 21-gun salute from howitzers of the Presidential Salute Battery.
  • The inaugural celebrations usually last ten days, from five days before the inauguration to five days after.
  • Since Thomas Jefferson's second inaugural on March 4, 1805, it has become tradition for the president to parade down Pennsylvania Avenue from the Capitol to the White House.
  • According to tradition, in the first inaugural, President Washington added the words "so help me God" when reciting the oath, although there is no contemporary evidence of this.
  • In 1977, Jimmy Carter started a new tradition by walking from the Capitol to the White House, although subsequent presidents have only walked part of the way for security reasons.
  • The War of 1812 and World War II forced two swearing-ins to be held at other locations in Washington, D.C.
  • The new President assumes power at noon on January 20th, regardless of whether or not he has actually taken the oath of office.
  • There is no requirement that any book, or in particular a book of sacred text, be used to administer the oath, and none is mentioned in the Constitution.
