Issue 7: Sustainability
Emily Doubilet || Founder, Sustainable Party
Obama proposes to create 5 million new green jobs - I say 50 million! The subsidies for crooked, old, polluting and profit-only business models need to be reversed towards businesses that serve the triple bottom line: people, planet and profit.
As stronger environmental regulations are enacted, we need green jobs on the ground to retrofit our nation and provide economic revitalization. “The green wave shall lift all boats” is the phrase made popular by national activist Van Jones.
I hope the age of information will evolve into an age of fabrication - a world where simple, green methods for manufacturing products and services through local living economies are within everyone’s reach.
I believe sustainability can be propelled by businesses concerns, as well as ‘do-gooder’ concerns for our natural resources and communities. This change in command should dramatically increase support - funding, subsidies, incentives and regulations - so that businesses do the right thing. Our people and planet need it.

wow! i think sustainableparty.com seems like a really promising initiative + emily doubilet seems like a really positive, intelligent person to helm the ship!!! i have really high hopes for this! thanks for sharing!!! let’s party!
Obama’s support of maintaining the (appropriately) failing automotive industry at all costs worried me as to his commitment to transforming our industrial and manufacturing infrastructure in the HERE and NOW towards new, green innovation and industry. We have what we need to make the switch, all except the political will. Can that come from the top down? Please, Obama? Please?
Ms. Doubilet makes excellent points all around. Sustainable Party sounds like the smartest idea to come to party-throwing since the pinata. I hope Obama continues his election-bound track record of giving voice and power to the youth of our nation. It is new and fresh ideas that will turn our economy, and the future of our planet, around.

To the commenter referenced as ‘please disclose relationships’, thanks for voicing your concern.
We’re working hard to line up issues and responses for 44 consecutive days. This project was conceived and launched over a 3-day time period, so there wasn’t much room to plan features in advance. We have some great people lined up in the coming weeks, but since we didn’t give our ‘experts’ much notice, we have to give them time now to prepare their responses.
In the meantime, in order to maintain our format of daily issues and responses, we were happy to feature two friends/collaborators from other projects we’ve been involved with - Ben Reece and Emily Doubilet. Since there’s no doubt Ben and Emily are qualified to speak on their respective issues, we didn’t see any conflict here. While we’ve made no attempt to hide these relationships, we didn’t think it was appropriate to reference our involvement with these other projects here given the nature of this website.
Change In Command is intended to provide an open dialogue on a broad range of issues leading up to the Inauguration. We welcome any recommendations for featured responses on any issue.
Thanks again for the comment.
Oh, incestuous Internet. Ben Reece is from LPHI when he’s not Delltree. Sustainable Party is okay to feature without disclosure when you’re Crush & Lovely, and not Boom.
Van Jones is great. When and where can I vote for you?
